Books and Brown Bag 2014 Schedule

Books and Brown Bag

Begins November 10, 2014 with The Submission

The Submission by Amy Waldman opens the 2014-2015 season of Books and Brown Bag. Facilitator Rosalyn Ehrenpreis will lead the discussion on Monday, November 10, at 1 p.m. Dessert and coffee will be available starting at 12:30 p.m. Bring lunch or a snack.

The controversy surrounding the designer of a memorial to the victims of 9/11 is the central issue in this very thought provoking book.

A novel exploring life in Berlin during World War II will be the focus of the discussion on Monday, December 8. Doris Morgenstern will be the facilitator for City of Women by David Gilliham, a view into the lives of the women left behind in Nazi Germany. The protagonist of the story lives with her mother-in-law while her husband is fighting in Russia. Her gradual awakening to the horrors taking place imbues her with the courage to work for the underground.

This book enlarges our perspective re women living in a dictatorship during wartime. Were there “good’ Germans? Reading this book may help to clarify our thinking.
